Nanzoin Temple has established the following prohibited rules within the temple grounds.
Please be sure to review them before your visit.
The Following Are Prohibited
- Eating and drinking while walking.
- Smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages.
- Visiting the temple in dress or appearance inappropriate for a religious facility
(wearing revealing clothing, showing tattoos, etc.)
- Sitting down on the approach to the temple or on the stairs, or blocking the approach to the temple, for example, by taking video or photographs for a considerable length of time.
- Taking photos or videos while walking in an area where photography is not permitted.
- Use of selfie sticks, stabilizers, tripods, or similar items.
- Shouting loudly, making noise, playing music, singing, dancing, etc.
- Littering, spitting out phlegm, or other acts that contaminate the approach to the temple.
- Breaking tree branches, picking flowers, stepping on moss, or any other acts that damage flowers, plants, or trees on the temple grounds.
- Drawing graffiti on Buddhist statues or buildings, or carrying out any act that may cause damage to them, or that may be considered disrespectful to the temple.
- Intimidating, abusive, or defiant behavior toward monks, temple staff, or other visitors.
- Failure to obey the rules for usage posted in the restrooms.
- Failure to comply with instructions by Nanzoin to prohibit or suspend your use of the facilities, when it is considered disturbing to other visitors or unacceptable by the temple.
Examples of Attire Not Permitted for Entry

Please note that entry may also be denied for attire deemed inappropriate by Nanzoin Temple, even if not specifically listed above.
* These rules apply regardless of gender.
* These regulations do not apply to children aged 12 and under (elementary school age or younger).
Cautions
Visits for the purpose of taking photographs, shooting motion videos, etc. require permission. Contact the temple to obtain such permission in advance.
If you wish to visit in a group, please be sure to contact us in advance. Permission to visit is required.
Apart from the above prohibited cases, please be forewarned that the temple may refuse entry to, or request leaving by, people who behave in ways that are improper for visiting, or who do not heed, obey, or agree to the rules and cautions of the temple.
